Joan has been awarded writing fellowships to the Virginia Center for the Arts, the MacDowell Colony, the Ragdale Foundation, the Atlantic Center of the Arts, the Djerassi Foundation, CA, OMI Ledig House, Fundaciòn Valparaiso, Spain, and Sangam House, India. She was ‘Poet-in-Residence’ at The Studios of Key West, Florida, April 2012 and she served as Crouch End Budgens Poet Laureate’ from 2011 to 2014.
She won a Poetry Society Placement at the Whittington Hospital, London, a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Grant to run community workshops in Haringey, London, a Haringey Teacher’s Centre Grant to direct a schools’ writing project, and numerous other awards.
